I bet some of you were wondering if I miscounted again, but nope--apparently this is Arthur Conan Doyle's last collection of Sherlock Holmes. The very last--complete with the "I mean it this time" from the author. Hell, I'll let him tell it in his own words:

The Complete Sherlock Holmes: His Last Bow (#7 of 8)
Well, looks like our duo's at it again, though the timeline varies between our gents being relatively young or much older and "retired." I have to say, though, for short stories, I couldn't stop until I'd read them all, and ended up doing so in one day.
The Complete Sherlock Holmes: The Valley of Fear (#6 of 8)
The last of Doyle's novels has a heckuva punch in it. I don't remember the last time I read this, but it must've been a very long time ago because the story of the murdered man really took me by surprise, probably the biggest surprise I'd read yet in the Holmes stories.
The Complete Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles (#5 of 8)
My Copy: 9780880292610 (image from abebooks.com) Well, we all knew this one was coming, the most famous story A.C.D. ever wrote, so much so that it's been translated into several languages, made into dozens of films, plays, radio shows, and even video games (I might have one of those, now that I think about it). I'm … Continue reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles (#5 of 8)
The Complete Sherlock Holmes: The Return of Sherlock Holmes (#4 of 8)
My Copy: 9780880292610 (image from abebooks.com) Ah, yes, the master of deduction has returned (by popular demand, I can assume, if the stories of poor A.C.D.'s rabid fanbase are any indication). From the first story of "Adventure of the Empty House" to 12 more spanning different facts of Holmes and Watson's partnership, it's a fun bunch … Continue reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes: The Return of Sherlock Holmes (#4 of 8)
The Complete Sherlock Holmes: Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (#3 of 8)
"Memoirs" is all over the map regarding the stories and how they're told. I wonder if this is where A.C.D. was getting tired and wanted to end Holmes because he didn't want to be known only for Sherlock Holmes (hey, Doyle, there are far worse legacies, you know).
The Complete Sherlock Holmes: “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”(#2 of 8)
My Copy: 9780880292610 (image from Abebooks.com) I am not writing these reviews to spoil the stories for you. However, if you're like me, you've probably heard a "Sherlock-ism" and then tried to remember where it came from. If you tend to go on reading binges, after a time you may get them mixed up. This is … Continue reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes: “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”(#2 of 8)
The Complete Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Scarlet / The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle (#1 of 8 reviews)
My Copy: 9780880292610 (cover image from Abebooks.com) I admit I couldn't wait to get back to these great little stories, and I have to have read them several times each by now (especially the two today: "A Study in Scarlet" and "The Sign of Four"). This particular complete volume organizes the stories and novellas in … Continue reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Scarlet / The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle (#1 of 8 reviews)
